About Give a Gift
Give a Gift grew out of the Christmas Angel program at Asbury Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where church members have spent many Christmases buying gifts for children, families, and seniors served by local agencies.
How the drive works
Each fall, partner agencies send in the names of the people they serve, with sizes and a gift wish for each. Every name becomes an angel card. On Sundays leading up to Christmas, members choose cards and sign up to buy the gifts. On drop-off day the gifts come back and fill the sanctuary, and the agencies pick them up to deliver in time for Christmas.
Over the years, the program has provided gifts to thousands of people in the Tulsa area.
Why we built it
The whole drive was tracked in spreadsheets, card by card. On busy Sunday mornings it was easy for an angel to be signed up twice or for a gift to go missing, and those mistakes were hard to catch before drop-off day.
Give a Gift was built by a longtime volunteer to take that work off the organizers’ plates: agency lists come in cleanly, volunteers record adoptions and check in gifts on their phones, and everyone can see where the drive stands. It is made so that other churches and charities can run a drive of their own the same way.
